Vantage Point Software / Market Technologies Actual User Review

Why The WebSite?

I am an actual owner of the VantagePoint / Market Technologies software.  I had looked at their product for a few months before purchasing and researched on the web.  In my research I was never able to find a definitive review of this software.  I was able to find some rants on some blogs, but then the staff at VantagePoint would point me to an "authorative review" that was very positive.  The problem (I found out later) is all of these sites were also resellers of the software..  So much for unbiased!!!  So I decided to spend my own money for this website and marketing to warn any potential buyers to beware.  Unlike other websites you may have seen - I have nothing to sell you; no great software or tips.  If you see any google ads on the page that reference other software, that is just the advertising that came with this page.

Also - please note I am not telling you whether or not to purchase this software.  I am simply passing along my experience and some of the things I found troubling after I purchased the software.  The decision to buy is up to you.

The Concept:

I love the concept of the software.  The basic premise of VantagePoint is that in our new economy all of our markets are now inter-related.  The price of oil directly related to currencies and other financial markets; inflation has a direct impact on the stock market; gold prices have an effect on currencies and the various stock markets around the world.  VantagePoint takes outside data, compiles it with historical data and creates graphs and charts to tell you where they think the market is heading..

First Gotcha they do not mention up front:  You have to have a subscription with a data provider for VantagePoint to work and that is not covered in the price of the software.  There are only 2 data providers they work with and odds are you do not have an account with them.  They are Commodity Research Bureau and Commodity Systems Inc..  Price per year for the data feed is $300 if you pay for the annual plan..

The charts provide you with 4 types of predictions:
10 day predicted moving average
5 day predicted moving average
Neural Score (more on this to follow)
Tomorrows high and low of that market

In all of their marketing you will notice they refer to a cross over on their charts.  Basically when you see a crossover of their predicted line over the actual moving average.

VantagePoint makes these charts available at http://www.tradertech.com/chartofweek.htm

The Blue line is their predicted 10 day moving average 4 days from now... I know - this can be a difficult concept to grasp.  The Black line is the actual 10 day moving average..  You will note that on 2/2/07 the Blue line crossed the Black line showing you the lucky user the market is about to reverse directions and head north.   Why is this important?? Many traders trade with the concept that when prices cross above or below a moving average it is confirmation the market has reversed and it is time to get in.   VantagePoint wants you to believe that using this software gets you into a market well before everyone else..

Gotcha #2:  This is where I should have slowed down and went beyond the marketing hype and my goal is to do that for you.  Remember when I said that many traders look for price to cross a moving average for confirmation of a change of direction?  In the above chart, the Blue line crossed over the black line on the 2nd day shown - the lowest day shown after 2/2/07.  When did the price cross over the actual 10 day moving average??  THE NEXT DAY!!! So I paid over 3 grand so I could get in 1 day before you - but the problem is in that 1 day I had over you - I never made an extra 3 freaking grand.  Follow the chart - price never crossed below the 10 day moving average so if you just trading on 10 day moving averages you would never need this software and you would have made about $4000..
